About Shiva
Shiva—or Siva—is the Hindu deity which represents spaciousness where there are no bondages. “Shiva” is a Sanskrit word meaning that which is not, and auspiciousness. Shiva holds the power to destroy the imperfections and illusions of the universe and within our own minds, to make space for constructive, compassionate change that benefits the world at large. He is also known as a deep meditator or a masterful lord of the dance, delivering balance to the world.
In his form, Shiva is depicted holding and surrounded by objects of his power: A cobra necklace symbolizes shedding and re-emerging, destroying and rebuilding. His third eye offers clarity, insight and wisdom. Three lines across his forehead represent his powerful force; he holds a trident as a reminder that he is part of the “Trimurti,” or three forms, with Brahma and Vishnu, restoring equilibrium.
Mantra: Om Namah Shivaya Namo Namaha (Bowing to Lord Shiva for universal connection and oneness in consciousness). Repeat this mantra 108 times, this signifies the number of beads on a mala.
